Tag-it-Yourself™ is a journaling platform that supports the personalization of self-monitoring practices in diabetes. TiY is developed at the Interaction Design Centre (www.idc.ul.ie) and is part of a broader research project called FutureCOMM, which is funded by HEA Ireland under the 4th PRTLI program.

The Future of TiY

We are working to continue developing our TiY platform.

Our next step will be to allow users:
  1. to set Tag-related reminders, alerts and alarms;
  2. to export, send and print your data log or sections of it;
  3. to securely extend patient data to a synchronized TiY web-page;
  4. to securely share datasets among a social-network of authorized carers (both formal and informal);
  5. to improve interactivity and control of data visualization;
Further directions of research concern:
  • exploring the interoperability of the TiY platform with state-of-the-art Personal Health Records (PHRs) such as Google Health or Microsoft Health Vault;
  • exploring interoperability with WiFi and Bluetooth devices of different kinds (glucose meters, but also food-scales, wearables, various sensors, and so on) to improve data acquisition and collection and the quality of data;
  • extending the TiY concept to different platforms (such as Android) and the TiY philosophy to different chronic diseases (e.g. hypertension, cardiovascular disease, obesity...).

  1. First, let me say, I think this will be a really good app. I am a Type 1 diabetic and have been looking for a good app to log my glucose readings. In the short time that I have used the app I have noticed a flaw. In the log tab it puts some of the logs on the wrong day. I am in the US (MST) and the log times are correct, but I think it sorts them according to Ireland time. Since there is (I believe) a 6 hr. time difference, any log after 6:00pm goes on the next day. Thanks and keep up the good work.

  2. Hi there, thanks for your comment. We were not aware of the problem you mentioned. Thanks a million. We are currently trying to get new resources to continue working on the project. It might take some time to correct that flaw, but we will try to get it sorted asap...
